Wollongong Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Treatments
Based at Evolve Health in Wollongong, I offer personalised acupuncture and Chinese medicine treatments designed to restore balance, support your body’s natural healing processes, and help you feel your best.
Using a holistic approach that considers your symptoms, lifestyle, emotional wellbeing, and environment, treatments are tailored to support your individual health goals
Services I offer
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine sterile needles into specific points on the body to give the body an instruction and support its natural healing processes. Moxibustion is a gentle heat therapy using the herb mugwort, which is burned over particular acupuncture points to warm, nourish, and promote circulation within the body.
Acupuncture & Moxibustion
Chinese herbal medicine involves the use of carefully selected plant-based herbs, and occasionally mineral or animal-derived substances, prescribed as teas, or pills. Herbal medicine may be used on its own or alongside acupuncture to support your individual health goals and overall wellbeing.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Cupping involves the use of gentle suction on the muscles to help relieve pain and tension, improve circulation, and support recovery. Gua sha is a gentle scraping technique used to promote circulation, relieve muscular tightness and pain, and support the body during the early stages of colds and flus.
Cupping & Gua Sha
Lifestyle recommendations, dietary advice, and tailored supplementation may be incorporated into your treatment plan according to your individual presentation and health goals, helping to support your overall health and wellbeing.

Ashley Boland
AHPRA registered Acupuncturist & Chinese Herbal Medicine Practitioner
My path to Traditional Chinese Medicine began in my work as a Registered Nurse, where I spent eight years working with NSW Health, caring for patients in both hospital and community settings. With over a decade in healthcare, I saw firsthand the importance of treating not just the symptoms, but the whole person.
After experiencing the transformative effects of TCM in my own life, I was inspired to complete a Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Sydney Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SITCM). As an AHPRA registered acupuncturist and Chinese herbal medicine practitioner, I now combines my medical background with a holistic approach, offering treatments that address the root of health concerns as well as the immediate discomfort.
I has also completed further study in Dr Tan Balance Method acupuncture and the Fertile Life Method training by Dr Kristen Wolfe. I love supporting people through all stages of life and has a special interest in women’s health, but love to help all people feel their best.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Acupuncture involves inserting very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body, selected according to your individual condition. These points send a signal and instruction to your body to help restore balance and promote healing. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory, the body has a network of channels or meridians through which Qi (“chee”) flows. Qi can be thought of as your body’s vital energy and intelligent communication system. By stimulating certain points, acupuncture helps restore the smooth flow of Qi, supporting your body’s ability to heal itself.

Most people find acupuncture to be comfortable and even deeply relaxing. Needle sensitivity varies from person to person, you may feel a small prick on insertion, or nothing at all. Your acupuncturist will check in with how you’re feeling throughout this process and adjust as needed. The needles used are very thin, much thinner than a blood drawing needle. Once the needles are in place, you might notice warmth, tingling, heaviness, or a dull ache in the area, all normal signs that your body is responding to treatment.
-
When performed by a qualified practitioner, acupuncture is considered very safe. Possible side effects are generally mild and temporary, such as slight bleeding, bruising, or tenderness at the needle site, or feeling a little lightheaded or tired afterwards. These usually resolve quickly on their own.
-
The number of treatments depends on your condition, how long you’ve had it, and your overall health. Acute conditions may improve within a few sessions, while chronic or long-standing issues often require a longer course of treatment. After your initial assessment, we’ll discuss a personalised plan for you.

After booking you’ll be sent an intake form and consent form for you to complete before your appointment. Avoid brushing your tongue for two days beforehand ad your tongue is part of our diagnostic process. On the day, eat a light meal or snack, stay hydrated, and wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Depending on your condition, Chinese herbal medicine may be recommended alongside acupuncture. This is NOT included in the consultation cost. Herbs may be prescribed in granule form (dissolved in hot water to make a tea) or as pills. Herbs will be mailed to you at home.

Many Australian private health funds offer rebates for acupuncture performed by an accredited practitioner. Check with your insurer to confirm your level of cover.

Yes, in fact, acupuncture can be a safe and effective support during pregnancy when performed by a qualified practitioner. It is often used for managing pregnancy-related symptoms and preparing the body for labour. Your treatment will be tailored to ensure safety for you and your baby.
